Dr. Khurshid Ahmed

Dr. Khurshid Ahmed is a distinguished academic, researcher, and human rights advocate. He serves as the Director of Research at the Baloch Advocacy and Studies Center (BASC), where he leads data-driven research and advocacy initiatives aimed at raising international awareness about the ongoing crisis in Balochistan. He holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology and has conducted advanced postdoctoral research at prestigious institutions, specializing in enzyme biotechnology, tissue engineering, and seafood-based bioproduct development.

Director of Research

Alongside his scientific career, Dr. Ahmed has committed over two decades to political and social activism focused on the rights of the Baloch people. He is a founding member of the Baloch Student Action Committee (BSAC), a grassroots organization established in 2008 to campaign for the educational and political rights of Baloch students across Pakistan. Under his leadership, BSAC became a significant force for youth-led resistance against systemic injustice.

In 2008, he along his friends ran a landmark hunger strike protest at the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), challenging discriminatory admission policies that systematically excluded Baloch students. The protest became a turning point in student activism and galvanized a broader movement for educational equity in the province.

Since 2018, Dr. Ahmed has played a leading role in documenting enforced disappearances and human rights violations in Balochistan.

Dr. Ahmed has also represented the Baloch Human Rights Council (BHRC) since 2019 in various roles. He has served as BHRC’s Representative for ASEAN countries, Deputy General Secretary, and Information Secretary, contributing to international advocacy and outreach efforts in Asia and beyond.
