Pakistan’s Campaign of Enforced Disappearances and State Killings in Balochistan: BASC’s 2024 Report Uncovers a Disturbing Pattern

London, 6 August 2025 – The Baloch Advocacy and Studies Center (BASC) has released its inaugural Annual Report on Enforced Disappearances and Extrajudicial Killings in Balochistan, exposing a systematic campaign of state violence targeting the Baloch people in 2024.

The report documents 674 cases of enforced disappearance across Balochistan in 2024, with nearly 70% of the victims still missing. A spike in these cases followed attacks by Baloch armed resistance groups on Pakistani security forces and their auxiliaries, pointing to a pattern of retaliatory detentions and collective punishment, particularly in Kech and Dera Bugti.

Strikingly, students made up over 50% of the victims with known occupations, with the Makran Division, a region known for political awareness, accounting for 42% of all disappearances.

The report also confirms 32 extrajudicial killings, with August witnessing the highest spike.
These findings reveal a coordinated state effort to silence dissent and maintain control over a strategically vital, resource-rich region, at the cost of fundamental human rights.

BASC urges international human rights bodies, the United Nations, and the international community to act urgently and hold Pakistan accountable.
